Die Letzte Vorstellung * The Final Curtain

uk24This old movie theatre stands in the center of a small belgian town. It has a rich tradition, it was founded about 80 years ago. With the rise of the large multiplex theatres, the small theatre had to fight a competition it could not win.

The owners tried to convert the theatre to a specialised repertory cinema that opened only once or twice a week. But in 2010, the final curtain fell.

The building is scheduled for demolition. When exploring it, you will be shocked how fast deterioration advances, when there is nobody caring for a building. I was surprised about the bad state of the structure after only five years of abandonment. But possibly, destruction was willfully forced.

My personal highlight was an ancient, heavily rusted double record player. Probably it played the waiting music before the screenings.
