Fabrik P. * Factory P.

uk24 Preface: to protect the location, I will not give too much details away this time.

This factory was the main plant of a company with rich tradition. It was founded in the middle of the 19th century. Before WW2, nearly 3000 employees were working here. After the war, the success story moved on for more decades. Some of the most advanced innovations of the specific industrial sector were invented by the engineers of this company.

When the last remaining descendant of the founder died, the star of the company began to wane. Serious mismanagement and buy-outs of the company yielded bad business results. In the end, the company had to pay rents for their former buildings, as they belonged to another investor.

In 2009, the remains of the „old“ company moved to a new location at the edge of town, and since then, the old factory has been shut down and most of the buildings were emptied.

Since abandonment, the location is decaying more and more. In 2013, a large fire devastated the main administration wing with the CEO’s site – interestingly, according to the newspapers, it was a technical problem causing the fire, not arson. There was many vandalism and metal theft. In 2015, a copper thief died when he tried to remove parts of a transformator that was still live-wired.

The future of the factory is uncertain. There are many plans, but as always, nothing happens. I think, because of the Euro crisis, it will stay this way for the coming years.
