Das Hallenbad * The Indoor Pool

uk24A large indoor pool in a big city. It was founded in 1906 as a bath house with cleaning baths. Shortly after, a pool was added. The city’s residents loved it. In January 1945, the building was destroyed in an allied terror bombing raid. After the war, it was completely rebuilt from scratch. Now it offered two large pools, a learning pool in the basement, a therapeutic bath department, sauna and much more. The administration wing is four stories high and has a janitor’s apartment on the top floor. In 2001, the facility was shut down due to financial problems. At the same time a privately owned pool opened at the other end of town. Since closure, the buildings served for photo and movie shoots, and one time as festival grounds and for an opera. A planned demolition was cancelled because parts of the ensemble are registered as protected landmark. Now, it is planned to convert the building to a retirement home.
